Know exactly what you're still owed
Contracted, payments with proof, and receivable, client by client.
Matterial's client billing tracks, for each client, how much you contracted, how much they have paid you —with proof of payment— and how much is still outstanding. The receivable recalculates with every payment you record, and that figure feeds your income-vs-expense forecast so you know how much cash is coming in and when.
| Client | Document | Amount | Status |
|---|---|---|---|
| GDGrupo Delta | Progress billing #3 | $547,300 | Due soon |
| ISInmobiliaria Sur | Invoice A-114 | $212,000 | Overdue |
| GDGrupo Delta | Progress billing #2 | $498,000 | Collected |
What problem it solves
The contract gets signed, the deposits and progress billings start, and before long no one knows for sure how much you're owed. Payments arrive in pieces, receipts get misplaced, and the receivable lives in the head of whoever keeps the books or in a spreadsheet no one updates. When cash gets tight, you find out late: you've already worked ahead without collecting, and the conversation with the client turns awkward.
How it works
Record what's contracted
Each client starts with the contracted amount for the project as the baseline of what they owe.
Log every payment with proof
As the client pays, you record the amount and attach the proof of payment so every installment has a backup.
See the receivable
The outstanding amount recalculates on its own: contracted minus what's been paid, always up to date by client and by project.
Feed the forecast
What's collected and what's still due flow into the income-vs-expense forecast to anticipate cash flow.

Frequently asked questions
What's the difference between contracted and receivable?
Contracted is the total amount the client agreed to pay for the project. Receivable is what's left: the contracted amount minus what they have already paid you. Matterial keeps both figures current per client, so you always know what you're owed without doing the math by hand.
Can I store the proof for each payment?
Yes. Each payment is recorded with its amount, its date, and its proof of payment attached, so you have a backup for every installment right next to the figure —ready to clear up any question with the client or to hand off to your accounting software.
How does billing feed the income-vs-expense forecast?
Each client's receivable enters the forecast as expected income, against the expenses coming from purchases and costs. That way you can see whether the money coming in will cover what you have to pay, and when.
Can I see billing for all my clients together?
Yes. Beyond the per-client and per-project view, there is a consolidated view that adds up contracted, paid, and receivable across the whole company in your base currency.
