How AI credits work
Matterial's AI (reading receipts, voice site log, photo findings, tender summaries) is paid with credits. Each company has a monthly allowance based on its plan and can buy more whenever it needs to. Here we explain the model and its rules.
- Each plan includes a monthly credit allowance (Free 200 → Enterprise 25,000) that renews every cycle without rolling over.
- The credits you buy (packs) never expire and are used once the plan allowance runs out.
- The allowance belongs to the company: every user draws from the same balance.
- Each AI action has its own cost; you see it in 'What each AI action costs' inside Credits.
- No payment lowers your balance: subscribing, renewing, or upgrading never takes credits away.

Check your balance
In Matterial Credits (menu → Credits) you see your available credits, the plan allowance (how much is left and when it renews), your purchased credits, and which actions they were spent on.

Understand the cost per action
The 'What each AI action costs' table lists the cost of every feature you have turned on: for example, reading a receipt costs 2 credits, the voice site log 2 per minute, and a quality or safety finding from a photo 3. If the AI can't answer, nothing is charged.

Everyone shares the allowance
Credits belong to the company, not to each user. If your site superintendent reads 10 receipts, they come out of the same balance the buyer or the director uses.

Buy more if you run short
When the plan allowance runs out, you buy a credit pack. It is added instantly, never expires, and is used after the plan allowance.
Frequently asked questions
What happens if I run out of credits?
AI actions pause until you buy more credits or your allowance renews. The rest of the platform (budgets, schedule, purchasing) keeps working normally.
Do the credits I buy expire?
No. Purchased credits never expire and no plan change touches them. The plan's monthly allowance doesn't roll over: what you don't use in the cycle doesn't carry to the next one, and at renewal it goes back to its full size.
What happens to my credits if I cancel my plan?
Your plan stays active until the end of the paid period. After that you move to Free: your allowance becomes Free's (200 a month) and you keep all your purchased credits.
Can the Free plan use AI?
Yes, with its 200 credits a month, which renew every month.
